The Better Business Bureau website is a resource for consumer protection, including information on identity theft and predatory lending, consumer alerts, and lists of trustworthy local business. Complaints against suspected fraudulent business practices can be filed online.
The Consumer Federation of America (CFA) website contains extensive consumer information including topics related to insurance.
Fast Facts & Figures about Social Security contains statistical data in tables and graphs regarding Social Security and SSI (e.g., role in reducing poverty). Information may be downloaded in pdf or html from this site and it is updated annually.
The Federal Reserve Bank of Boston produced a brochure entitled “Identity Theft”, which is available from them in both pdf and html formats and in paper form. The brochure offers a good overview of the problem of identity theft, including topics such as “How Identity Theft Can Affect You,” “Steps to Prevent Fraud,” and “What to Do If You’re a Victim of Identity Theft.” A Spanish version, “Robo de Identidad,” is also available.
The Federal Trade Commission’s consumer information website includes a number of online fact sheets on topics such as credit fraud and identity theft. The fact sheets can be ordered in print form from the FTC free of charge. Many of the fact sheets are available in Spanish.

A complaint input form for reporting identity theft is included. The site links to related publications and videos. Also on the FTC site the consumer fact sheet Building a Better Credit Report offers tips on dealing with debt and avoiding credit-related scams and identity theft.
